Social and schema
This page tells you which Open Graph, Twitter, canonical and robots tags Vantage SEO writes, what the free schema.org graph contains, and what the Pro schema builder adds.
Open Graph tags
The plugin writes these Open Graph tags into the <head> of each page at publish time:
| Tag | Value |
|---|---|
og:title | The stored Open Graph title of the page. If there is none, the final page title. |
og:description | The stored Open Graph description. If there is none, the final meta description. |
og:image | The stored Open Graph image of the page. A site-relative path becomes an absolute URL on your site URL. There is no site-wide default image. |
If a value is empty, the plugin does not write the tag.
Twitter card tags
The plugin writes Twitter tags only when a page has a stored Twitter card type. The type is summary or summary_large_image. With a card type, the plugin writes:
twitter:cardwith the card type.twitter:titlewith the same value asog:title.twitter:descriptionwith the same value asog:description.
Set the social values for a page
The editor panel has no fields for the Open Graph title, description, image or the Twitter card type. Set them with the MCP tool seo_set_entry_meta Pro, with the fields ogTitle, ogDescription, ogImage and twitterCard. See MCP server.
Social share previews Pro
With Pro, the SEO panel shows a Facebook share card and an X share card for the page. The cards use the same values as the publish step, so they show the title, description and image that the page will get.
Canonical URL
The plugin writes <link rel="canonical"> only when a page has a stored canonical URL. A site-relative path becomes an absolute URL on your site URL.
The plugin does not write a canonical URL that points to the page itself when no canonical is stored. The setup summary can tell you that canonicals use your site URL. That is true only for pages with a stored canonical.
Set a canonical URL with the MCP tool seo_set_entry_meta Pro, field canonical. The URL can have up to 2,000 characters.
Robots tags
Pages are indexable by default. The plugin writes <meta name="robots"> only when a page has a stored robots flag:
noindex: search engines must not list the page. The plugin also removes the page from the sitemap andllms.txt.nofollow: search engines must not follow the links on the page.
There are no per-table robots defaults. Set the flags with the MCP tool seo_set_entry_meta Pro, field robots.
Site verification tags
On the General tab, paste the verification token for Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools or Pinterest. You can paste the full <meta> tag. The plugin keeps only the token. It writes these tags into every published page, including the 404 page:
<meta name="google-site-verification"><meta name="msvalidate.01">(Bing)<meta name="p:domain_verify">(Pinterest)
The schema.org graph Free
The plugin writes one <script type="application/ld+json"> block into each regular page. This block is data. Browsers do not run it. It holds an @graph whose nodes link to each other by @id:
| Node | Content |
|---|---|
WebSite | Your site URL and site name. |
Organization or Person | The publisher: name, logo and profile links (sameAs). The plugin writes this node only when you enter a publisher name. |
WebPage | The page URL, the final title, the description, and the dates the page was created and last changed. The page type is WebPage by default. |
BreadcrumbList | A breadcrumb trail built from the slug: Home, then each folder of the path, then the page. |
The graph needs a saved site URL. It is on by default.
Set up the graph
Open the Schema tab of SEO Settings.
- Use the schema.org JSON-LD graph switch to turn the graph on or off.
- Under Publisher, select Organization or Person, then enter the publisher name and the logo URL. The logo URL can be absolute or relative to your site URL.
- Under Publisher profiles (sameAs), add the URLs of your social and business profiles.
- Save, then publish the site.
Page type
You can change the page type of one page to AboutPage, ContactPage, CollectionPage or SearchResultsPage. Use the MCP tool seo_set_entry_schema Pro, field schemaType.
The graph is written on regular pages only. Template pages and the entries they render do not get a graph, because they would all get the URL of the template page.
Schema builder Pro
The Pro schema builder adds a second JSON-LD block to your pages. Its nodes link to the same @id values as the free graph. Open the Schema Builder tab of SEO Settings.
Schema types
A template uses one of 20 types, or custom:
Article, Product, LocalBusiness, Service, Event, Recipe, Course, JobPosting, VideoObject, Review, SoftwareApplication, HowTo, PodcastEpisode, FAQPage, Book, Movie, ItemList, Organization, Person, WebPageElement.
Each type has a form with the common text, URL and date fields for that type. For more complex data, select custom and paste a JSON-LD object with a string @type. Custom JSON-LD can have up to 20,000 characters. The plugin removes @context from it, because the block already has one.
Where a template applies
A template has a target table. In this version, the target table must be pages. The plugin applies the enabled template to every regular page.
- Only one template can be enabled for a table. You can keep more templates disabled.
- You can store up to 100 templates.
- Entries of other tables cannot get a template yet. They render through a template page, and Instatic does not tell the plugin which entry it renders. This needs a change in Instatic.
Custom JSON-LD for one page
You can add custom JSON-LD to one page with the MCP tool seo_set_entry_schema, field customSchemaJson. The plugin writes it in addition to the template node. The free edition stores this value but does not write it into pages.
The plugin writes schema at publish time only. After you add, change or delete a template, publish the pages again. When the Pro license is not active, the plugin writes no Pro schema on the next publish. Pages that were published before keep their HTML until you publish them again.
